Jon Hansen, Speaker of the South Dakota House of Representatives and 5th generation South Dakotan, is a proven, patriotic, conservative Republican. A devoted husband and father of six young kids, Jon lives in small-town Dell Rapids with his wife, Sheila, where they raise their family with faith in God and South Dakota values.
As a state representative and now Speaker of the House, Jon Hansen has been a fighter in the trenches leading the charge on the biggest issues facing our state. He’s fought the good fight, and he’s delivered real results.
When property rights were under attack by green new deal carbon pipeline companies, Jon Hansen was a leader in the fight for our private property rights. Many said the green new deal company land grab was inevitable—and that the pipeline companies would seize South Dakotans’ land with eminent domain and use it whether landowners agreed or not.
But Jon Hansen was one of the first to stand up and fight back. Alongside grassroots farmers, ranchers, and landowners, they beat back those green new deal companies and Jon protected our rights.
Then another fight came—this time for life. When Jon heard that a leftist group—backed by out-of-state special interests—was going to try to write abortion up-to-birth into our South Dakota Constitution, Jon didn’t hesitate to step up to lead the fight. Jon, along with his friend Leslee Unruh, formed the Life Defense Fund and began the fight against Abortion Amendment G.
All the polls and political talking heads and even some Republican politicians said Jon could not win and that he was wasting time and money. However, together—along with many great and devoted South Dakotans—Jon defeated Constitutional Abortion Amendment G.
During COVID, Jon Hansen voted against shutdowns and voted to protect South Dakotans’ constitutional rights. Jon then led the fight against companies and governments when they began trying to force COVID vaccine mandates. When Jon saw restrictions on religious liberty happening across the country during COVID, Jon passed the most significant religious liberty protection in modern South Dakota History.
The story of Jon’s fight for the people can’t be summed up in just a few paragraphs. But you don’t have to take Jon’s word for it—Jon’s record speaks loud and clear. As a proven fighter, Jon Hansen holds an A+ pro-gun rating from the NRA, a perfect pro-family voting record, a 100% pro-property rights voting record, an A rating on securing our elections, and Jon has A ratings and has been awarded excellence and achievement awards from leading conservative groups.
